Role description

Hiring company: Bahamas Grid Company Source: LinkedIn Bahamas The Asset Management Manager leads the development and implementation of Bahamas Grid Company’s asset management strategy for all transmission and distribution (T&D), substation, and associated operational assets. Reporting to the VP of Engineering & Planning, the Manager establishes the systems, asset register, maintenance planning processes, and lifecycle practices needed to track assets, manage risk, improve reliability, and support sound investment decisions. The Manager directly supervises the Asset Analyst and GIS Technician and is accountable for asset management governance, preventive maintenance planning, GIS strategy, system development, and management reporting. The role coordinates with Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, IT, Finance, Procurement, and Project Management to connect spatial, asset condition, and performance information with maintenance priorities, renewal programmes, and capital plans. Essential Functions: • Develop and implement asset management processes, plans, and priorities for transmission, distribution, substation, and related utility infrastructure. • Establish a comprehensive asset register and hierarchy covering lines, poles, towers, conductors, cables, transformers, substations, switchgear, protection and control equipment, meters, and associated communications equipment. Track identification, location, ownership, specifications, commissioning dates, condition, criticality, maintenance history, and retirement status. • Define asset and GIS data governance standards, ownership, unique identifiers, mandatory attributes, coordinate systems, network connectivity, access controls, and reconciliation procedures to maintain accurate and consistent records. • Manage the GIS strategy, work programme, priorities, and resources; oversee mapping and spatial analysis deliverables supporting asset planning, engineering studies, maintenance, and emergency restoration. • Set field and GPS data collection and as-built submission requirements; approve GIS update procedures and coordinate with Engineering and Field Operations to verify and record new, modified, and retired assets following project closeout. • Direct condition assessments, inspections, and criticality evaluations; analyze asset age, performance, maintenance history, and failure trends to prioritize repair, refurbishment, and replacement. • Develop and oversee preventive and condition-based maintenance programmes, inspection schedules, and job plans based on asset criticality, manufacturer guidance, operating history, and failure risk. Coordinate execution with Operations and Maintenance and review overdue work, defects, and corrective actions. • Lead requirements definition, implementation, and improvement of CMMS/EAM and GIS platforms. Oversee integration with work orders, inventory, outage records, and operational data systems; coordinate with IT and vendors on support, system improvements, and budget recommendations. • Use operational trends and equipment history from OSIsoft/AVEVA PI System, where available, together with CMMS/EAM records such as IBM Maximo to support asset health monitoring, maintenance prioritization, and failure investigations. • Oversee calculation, validation, analysis, and reporting of SAIDI (System Average Interruption Duration Index), SAIFI (System Average Interruption Frequency Index), CAIDI (Customer Average Interruption Duration Index), MAIFI (Momentary Average Interruption Frequency Index), and CEMI (Customers Experiencing Multiple Interruptions). • Agree reliability reporting methods with Operations and system owners; validate outage and customer data, distinguish sustained and momentary interruptions, document exclusions, and apply reporting periods and CEMI thresholds consistently. Use findings to target maintenance and renewal actions. • Lead, coach, and evaluate the GIS Technician and Asset Analyst; assign work, review technical deliverables, manage deadlines and resources, and support professional development. Other Requirements: • Support engineering studies, capital projects, storm preparedness, and restoration planning by providing asset data and risk-based recommendations. • Maintain asset management standards, procedures, and documentation, and support audit, regulatory, and insurance information requests as required. • Coordinate with vendors and contractors undertaking inspections, data collection, system updates, or specialist asset studies. • Manage the team’s work programme, deadlines, and resources, escalating material asset risks and data issues to the VP of Engineering. Physical Demands: • Ability to conduct site visits and inspect utility assets on varied terrain while following applicable safety requirements. • Ability to use standard field assessment tools and personal protective equipment as required. • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions during inspections or emergency response. Work Environment: • Primarily office based, with regular collaboration across Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Finance, and Project Management. • Periodic visits to substations, line routes, work sites, and operational facilities; adherence to site safety rules and PPE requirements. • May require extended hours or emergency support during outages, storms, and critical asset events. • Regular use of asset management systems, GIS, spreadsheets, dashboards, and large operational datasets. Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Asset Management, Engineering Management, or a related discipline. • 5–7 years of relevant experience in utility engineering, infrastructure asset management, maintenance planning, or a related field, including supervisory or team leadership experience. • Experience with utility asset registers, condition assessment, lifecycle planning, risk prioritization, and capital investment recommendations. • Practical experience with electric transmission, distribution, and substation assets and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) or enterprise asset management systems is required. Experience with IBM Maximo and OSIsoft PI System (now AVEVA PI System), or comparable platforms, is preferred. • Demonstrated experience developing preventive maintenance programmes and implementing or improving asset registers, CMMS/EAM processes, and maintenance reporting. • Working knowledge of SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI, MAIFI, and CEMI and their application to utility reliability assessment and improvement. • Experience managing GIS platforms such as ArcGIS or equivalent, including utility network mapping, data quality assurance, spatial analysis, and supervision of GIS deliverables. Skills/Attributes: • Strong understanding of utility asset lifecycles, reliability, maintenance practices, and risk-based decision-making. • Ability to interpret engineering and operational information and translate analysis into practical maintenance and investment priorities. • Strong asset and GIS data governance, spatial analysis oversight, CMMS/EAM workflow, preventive maintenance planning, operational data interpretation, and reporting skills. • Effective people leadership, cross-functional coordination, communication, and project management skills. • Ability to balance operational needs, data quality, budgets, and long-term asset performance. • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and discretion when handling sensitive infrastructure and operational information.
