Role Description The Assistant Manager supports the Restaurant Manager in ensuring the delivery of guest satisfaction through managing the daily operations of a single restaurant. The Assistant Manager helps manage financial controls, operations, people development, guest service and compliance across shifts for desired restaurant outcomes (i.e. increased sales, profitability and employee retention). The Assistant Manager has full accountability for restaurant operations in the absence of the Restaurant Manager. An Assistant Manager works long and/or irregular shifts, including extra shifts, as needed, for efficient operation of the restaurant.
Key Responsibilities
Restaurant Operations
• Support the Restaurant Manager in managing restaurant operations and achieving business targets.
• Lead and supervise restaurant teams during assigned shifts.
• Communicate shift goals and ensure operational targets are achieved.
• Ensure products are prepared and served in accordance with brand standards and quality requirements.
• Monitor speed of service and take action to improve operational efficiency.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement solutions.
• Support inventory, labour, cash and cost management.
• Ensure effective opening and closing of the restaurant.
People & Leadership
• Lead, motivate and develop Team Members and Shift Coordinators.
• Conduct shift huddles and communicate priorities clearly.
• Supervise and train employees on company policies, procedures and brand standards.
• Support performance management and address disciplinary matters appropriately.
• Ensure employees adhere to attendance, appearance, safety and operational standards.
• Organise team breaks and crew meals effectively.
Guest Experience
• Ensure guests receive fast, friendly and accurate service.
• Monitor and resolve guest complaints and service issues.
• Conduct table touches and engage with guests to assess their experience.
• Ensure food quality, order accuracy and speed of service meet established standards.
Food Safety, Sanitation & Security
• Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation and hygiene standards.
• Maintain clean, organised and safe restaurant facilities.
• Conduct routine checks of dining, kitchen, restroom and storage areas.
• Ensure employees use required protective equipment and follow health and safety procedures.
• Support effective security practices and ensure security personnel perform assigned duties.
Administration & Controls
• Prepare and manage staff schedules and duty rosters.
• Complete required reports, checklists, inventories and documentation accurately and on time.
• Support cash management and reconciliation procedures.
• Monitor stock levels and assist with stock ordering and inventory management.
• Report maintenance, safety and operational issues promptly.
• Monitor and control food, paper, labour, utilities and other operating costs.
• Support effective waste and loss prevention controls.
Delivery Operations
• Ensure established delivery protocols are followed.
• Monitor delivery floats and daily delivery documentation.
• Ensure delivery systems and electronic devices are used in accordance with established procedures.
• Reconcile delivery cash and records as required.
Qualifications & Experience
• Associate Degree and/or certification in Supervisory Management or a related field.
• Certification or training in Inventory Management is an asset.
• Minimum one year of experience at Team Member level or in a food and beverage/restaurant environment.
• Previous experience in an Assistant Manager or supervisory role is an advantage.
• Moderate computer skills.
• Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
