Role Overview:
The Permitting Officer is responsible for securing, managing, and maintaining all regulatory permits, licenses, and statutory approvals required for GYSBI’s operations and projects.
Objectives:
• To safeguard operational continuity and regulatory integrity across all GYSBI facilities and projects
• Managing the end-to-end permit lifecycle, ensuring timely submissions, and maintaining robust compliance frameworks.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare and submit permit applications, renewals, and modifications for all regulatory permits, licenses, and approvals required across GYSBI operations and projects.
• Oversee the preparation and timely submission of environmental monitoring reports, annual reports, and compliance documentation required under permit conditions and regulatory frameworks.
• Track permit application statuses, approval timelines, and ongoing compliance requirements to ensure no disruption to business operations.
• Coordinate directly with government agencies and regulatory bodies throughout the permitting and licensing processes (including EPA, GFS, GEA, Sea Defence, CH&PA, M&CC, etc.).
• Provide clear guidance to management and internal departments regarding permitting requirements, compliance obligations, and regulatory risks.
• Maintain comprehensive, up-to-date records and archives of all permit applications, approvals, agency correspondence, and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate and provide on-site support during regulatory visits, audits, and site inspections conducted by government authorities.
• Monitor changing regulatory landscapes and local statutory requirements to advise leadership on necessary operational adjustments.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a permitting, regulatory compliance, or environmental management role within Guyana.
• Direct working knowledge of local statutory bodies (EPA, GFS, GEA, Sea Defence, CH&PA, M&CC) and national permitting processes.
• Background in the oil & gas, maritime, or heavy industrial logistics sectors is highly preferred.
• Strong organizational and tracking skills with high attention to detail.
• Excellent written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
• Ability to work cross-functionally and manage strict regulatory deadlines independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday (8:00AM – 5:00PM)
