THE ROLE | The Underwriter - Regional will be responsible for reviewing applications for Insurances coming into the Company, analysing the risk associated with each applicant and determine the terms and conditions under which policies will be written. The Underwriter is also expected to develop and service the company’s portfolio of business, in line with the company’s business plan, Underwriting Guidelines and Criteria, Reinsurance Arrangements, Standard Operating Procedures and prevailing Market Conditions & Practices. He\She will serve the territories of Anguilla, Antigua, Montserrat, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Belize, BVI, Turks and The Bahamas. Other duties and responsibilities include:
• Develop and maintain excellent Customer Relationships with both internal and external customers and assist with queries.
• Provide feedback to customers where applicable in a timely manner.
• Co-operate and support the company’s Customer Care initiatives.
• Demonstrate the highest levels of customer service, and develop positive and productive relationships with our clients, brokers and agents, this includes maintaining Service Level agreements.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with Producers and Clients.
• Underwrite commercial and/or personal lines risks in accordance with Company and Industry standards
• Ensure underwriting excellence, which will support the drive towards profitability.
• Maintain detailed knowledge of new and existing products to provide technical expertise and support to stakeholders.
• Keep abreast of changes within the market that can affect the portfolio.
• Monitor policy performance.
• Prepare monthly reports as required.
• Ensure that Quotation Requests and other queries are handled in a timely manner
• Review and follow up on quotations issued
• Provide feedback on business lost.
• Assess background information on the client and analyze insurance proposals.
• Calculate premium in accordance with company guidelines.
• Select appropriate and competitive premiums based on information and judgement.
• Negotiate Terms and maintain a profitable underwriting book of business.
• Write policies and add specific conditions where required.
• Review and accurately sign broker’s slips consistent with outlined requirements.
• Prepare Policy Documentation.
• Accurately prepare endorsements in accordance with instructions received.
• Enter and record all new business and policy transactions on the system.
• Maintain Policy Files and adhere to Company’s filing procedures.
• Provide technical support where and when needed.
• Review, prepare and follow up on Renewals to ensure renewal retention target is achieved.
• Discuss receivable issues with Producers when necessary.
• Review loss ratio reports and surveys and provide recommendations for risk acceptance or denial.
• Communicate to producers/clients recommendations to improve risk exposures.
• Perform payment transactions when necessary.
• Identify portfolios that require special attention.
• Provide solutions and assist with the development of new business opportunities in the territories.
• Any other duties as assigned.
THE PERSON | To be the ideal candidate you should possess the following:
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in the Insurance Industry, with a minimum of 2 years commercial underwriting.
• Associate Degree in Business/Management/Administration.
• Completed or pursuing Insurance Certification in Commercial Lines Insurance
• Completed or pursuing BSc. or higher qualification in Insurance & Risk Management, Business Management or any other related course of study (will be an asset)
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs - Word & Excel,
