Position Summary
The Freight Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operational performance, security, administration, and continuous improvement of the Freight Department across all Bahamas Ferries freight operations. This position provides direct oversight of freight personnel, warehouse operations, cargo movement, customer service functions, administrative processes, and Family Island freight operations while ensuring operational efficiency, accountability, profitability, and compliance with company standards.
The Freight Manager reports directly to the Director of Freight & Logistics and serves as a key operational leader in ensuring that all freight operations, warehouse facilities, equipment resources, and customer-facing services are managed to the highest standard.

Updated Key Responsibilities1. Department Leadership & Accountability
• Provide overall leadership and accountability for the Freight Department.
• Ensure all freight operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with company standards.
• Establish operational goals, service expectations, and departmental performance standards.
• Manage staffing levels, scheduling, overtime, attendance, and workforce productivity.
• Conduct coaching, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and employee development.
• Build a culture of accountability, professionalism, safety, and customer service excellence.
2. Freight & Warehouse Operations
• Oversee all receiving, inspection, storage, staging, loading, unloading, and distribution of freight.
• Ensure freight is accurately documented, properly handled, and loaded in accordance with vessel schedules.
• Monitor cargo flow to maximize warehouse efficiency and vessel utilization.
• Ensure all freight categories, including oversized cargo, rolling equipment, heavy equipment, and palletized shipments, are handled correctly.
• Ensure warehouse organization, cleanliness, and operational readiness at all times.
• Develop and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency.
3. Warehouse Security & Facility Upkeep
• Maintain direct accountability for the security of all freight warehouses, cargo storage areas, and related freight facilities.
• Ensure all warehouse access controls, key management, alarm systems, surveillance systems, and security procedures are enforced.
• Investigate and report any security breaches, cargo discrepancies, theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
• Conduct regular facility inspections to ensure the warehouse remains secure, clean, organized, and operationally compliant.
• Oversee the general upkeep, appearance, housekeeping, and operational integrity of all freight warehouse facilities.
• Coordinate repairs, facility improvements, and preventative maintenance with internal maintenance teams and external vendors where required.
4. Shared Equipment Management Responsibility
• Share responsibility with the Fleet, Operations, and Maintenance teams for the effective management, utilization, and accountability of freight-related equipment.
• Monitor the daily use of forklifts, trailers, containers, pallet jacks, and cargo handling equipment.
• Ensure operators complete required pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
• Identify equipment deficiencies and coordinate repairs, preventative maintenance, and replacement planning.
• Monitor equipment availability to support operational demands across Nassau and Family Island operations.
• Ensure proper operator accountability and adherence to equipment handling standards.
5. Family Island Freight Operations
• Provide operational oversight for all Family Island freight operations.
• Conduct regular site visits, audits, and operational reviews.
• Ensure consistency in freight handling, customer service, documentation, and operational standards across all islands.
• Support staffing, training, operational planning, and issue resolution at remote locations.
• Identify opportunities for operational improvements and revenue growth.
6. Commercial & Administrative Oversight
• Oversee Freight Commercial Clerks and Freight Administrative personnel.
• Ensure bookings, pricing, invoicing, manifests, receipts, and cargo releases are completed accurately.
• Monitor customer service standards, complaint resolution, and service recovery.
• Ensure accurate reporting, freight billing, and revenue accountability.
• Review departmental expenses, labor costs, and operational budgets.
• Monitor storage charges, demurrage, and other freight-related billing activities.
7. Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with all company safety standards, warehouse protocols, and applicable regulations within The Bahamas.
• Conduct safety meetings, toolbox talks, inspections, and incident investigations.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and safe cargo handling practices.
• Identify operational risks and implement corrective actions.
Travel Requirement
• This position requires regular travel throughout The Bahamas, including Family Island operations, to conduct operational oversight, facility inspections, training, audits, and business support activities
