Role description

Hiring company: Confidencial Source: LinkedIn Guyana About us Whale Maritime Guyana Inc. supplies vessels calling at Guyanese ports — provisions, technical stores, spare parts, bonded goods and deck/engine consumables. We are growing with Guyana's offshore and shipping sector and are building the local operation properly. The role This is a hands-on, all-round position. You will own the full chain from a vessel's requisition landing in your inbox to the goods being signed for on deck. You will not sit behind a desk waiting for instructions — you will run the operation and go find new business when the order book is light. What you will do • Source provisions, technical stores, spare parts and consumables from suppliers in Georgetown and further afield; build and maintain a supplier base with real negotiated pricing • Turn vessel requisitions into accurate, competitive quotations, fast — usually same day • Purchase, receive, check, pack, mark and manifest orders to vessel standards • Coordinate customs, paperwork, port passes and clearances with agents and authorities • Deliver to vessels alongside, at the shore bases and at anchorage — and be there when it happens • Control stock, costs and margin; keep clean records of every order • Actively look for new business. On quiet days you are expected to be on the phone and at the wharf building relationships with agents, masters, superintendents and operators What we are looking for • 3+ years in ship chandlery, shipping agency, freight forwarding, offshore logistics or procurement in Guyana • You already know your way around Georgetown's supplier market — or you can prove you will learn it in weeks, not years • Working knowledge of import/customs procedure and port operations on the Demerara • Valid driver's licence; own transport an advantage • Confident written and spoken English; comfortable with email, Excel and WhatsApp business communication • Available outside office hours when a vessel calls. Ships do not keep office hours and neither does this job • Self-starting. If nobody tells you what to do today, you already know what to do today Important — please read before applying This is a full-time, exclusive position. If you currently hold other paid work, a directorship, or run your own business, you must disclose it in your application. Candidates who cannot commit to Whale Maritime as their sole employer should not apply. We check references, and we verify. What we offer • Competitive local salary, paid monthly, reviewed after a six-months • Real autonomy — you will run the Guyana operation day to day and report directly to our Regional Manager. • A short chain of command. Decisions get made in hours, not weeks How to apply Send your CV plus a short note answering one question: "Describe one time you got something delivered to a vessel that everyone else said could not be done in time." Email: [your email] · Subject line: Operations Manager — Georgetown Applications without the note will not be read. Applications to be sent to job@whalemaritime.com
