About the Role
South Point Hotel is seeking an experienced and highly capable Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of the hotel and serve as the primary finance partner to hotel leadership and Head Office in Canada.
Reporting to the hotel General Manager and Head Office in Canada, the Finance Manager will be responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the hotel's financial records, overseeing financial controls and reporting, managing budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and regulatory requirements.
This role will also oversee the local Accounts Department and work closely with hotel leadership, operational teams, external auditors, tax professionals, banking partners, and Head Office to support sound financial decision-making and the overall financial performance of the hotel.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, hospitality finance experience, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
· Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
· Lead the month-end close process, including account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, within 15 days of month-end.
· Prepare and provide daily, weekly, monthly, and ad hoc financial reports to hotel leadership and Head Office as required.
· Prepare complete monthly financial statements and detailed budget-to-actual variance analysis, including commentary and recommendations on financial performance.
· Maintain oversight of cash management, working capital, fixed assets, inventory, and other key financial areas.
Financial Controls & Compliance
• Maintain strong internal controls across hotel financial operations, including proper approvals, separation of duties, cash management, inventory controls, and adherence to budgets.
• Ensure compliance with local accounting principles, regulations, company policies, and applicable tax requirements.
• Manage regulatory and tax requirements, including compliance related to the hotel's ongoing VAT exemptions.
• Identify financial risks and implement appropriate controls and processes to mitigate them.
Budgeting & Forecasting
• Lead the preparation of annual hotel and departmental budgets.
• Maintain and update financial forecasts to provide hotel management and Head Office with current and accurate financial information.
• Monitor financial performance and provide insights and recommendations to support business planning and decision-making.
Team Leadership & Accounting Services
• Oversee and support the day-to-day activities of junior Accounts Department team members.
• Oversee locally provided accounting services, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other related financial activities.
• Establish clear expectations, provide guidance and coaching, and support the development of the local finance team.
Audit, Tax & Banking Relationships
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the hotel's external auditor and income tax return preparer.
• Coordinate audit and tax requests and provide required documentation and support.
• Manage local banking relationships and services for operating and merchant accounts.
Systems & Technology
• Implement, administer, and maintain hotel software systems supporting the Accounts Department and broader hotel operations, including:
• Accounting ERP systems
• Payroll and time-entry systems
• Restaurant POS systems
• Inventory control systems
• Room reservation systems
• Champion effective system adoption and training across the hotel.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial processes, workflows, reporting, and system utilization.
Business Partnership & Collaboration
• Partner with hotel leadership and operational teams to provide financial insights and information to support decision-making.
• Collaborate closely with Head Office in Canada on financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, compliance, and other business initiatives.
• Provide financial guidance and recommendations to support operational efficiency, profitability, and long-term business performance.
• Enforce and maintain strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information and in conversations with colleagues, guests and external parties
What You'll Bring
• Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in an Accounting or Finance Management role.
• Previous experience working in the hospitality industry is required.
• CPA designation or equivalent professional accounting qualification is required.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and internal controls.
• Strong knowledge of or experience working with IFRS.
• Strong technology and software skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products, including Excel.
• Experience managing or implementing accounting, payroll, POS, inventory, and reservation systems.
• Strong preference will be given to candidates with experience using QuickBooks and RoomMaster.
• Strong preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working in a professional accounting firm, such as KPMG, BDO, or a similar organization.
• Experience managing and developing junior accounting team members.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with hotel operations, Head Office, external advisors, auditors, and financial partners.
• High level of integrity, accountability, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with teams across multiple locations.
