POSITION SUMMARY: The Wastewater Treatment Plant and Reverse Osmosis (WWTP RO) Mechanic is responsible for operating and maintaining the Reverse Osmosis and the Wastewater Treatment Plants. This position operates equipment to purify and clarify water and to process, treat, and dispose of sewage. The WWTP RO Mechanic efficiently operates the plants and undertakes a variety of plumbing tasks ranging from fixing leakages to install, repair, and maintain pipes, valves, fittings, drainage systems, pumps, and fixtures. The WWTP RO Mechanic must have mechanical aptitude and the ability to solve problems, being able to work efficiently with great attention to detail. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Liaise and cooperate with the Water & Sanitation Manager to ensure documentation, safe, and compliant disposal of waste and by-products from water treatment processes. • Develops and updates SOPs for operational processes, with training updates tied to equipment and performance changes. • Monitors and documents power consumption, identifies operations improvements, and establishes minimum staffing levels for the evening and continuous production. • Operates and maintains the Reverse Osmosis Plant to produce optimum quality, potable water. • Controls monitors and maintains the equipment and treatment processes in wastewater (sewage) treatment plant. • Follows the preventative maintenance program. Inspects and repairs water distribution, treatment equipment, filtering equipment, and processes chemical treatment. • Monitors operating conditions, meters, gauges, water, and gas levels. Taking measurements from hand-held meters, control panels, or computer screens and interprets that information to improve water quality. • Applies expertise to remove or neutralize the chemicals, solid materials, and organisms in wastewater to ensure water is not polluted when it is returned to the environment. Performs batch treatment for the removal of copper, nickel, lead, silver, and gold. • Cleans, disinfects, and maintains septic tanks, filters, and screens for wastewater. Oversees store tank levels to ensure compliance with regulations. • Plumbs in copper, PVC, and CPVC lines to all areas of plant and outlying stations. Solders copper pipes for water softener installation. • Ensures an adequate supply of water for human consumption and firefighting activities. • Inspects the treatment plant systems daily and ensures effective equipment operation. • Inspects, services, and repairs components of the water treatment plant, including water intakes, pipes, water storage vessels, chemical treatment equipment controls, circulation pumps, boilers, heat exchangers, and valves. • Reads blueprints and drawings to understand or plan the layout of plumbing, waste disposal, and water supply systems. Reads work orders and maintain records of production status for communication with Supervisor. • Responds to, diagnoses, and resolves plumbing emergencies • Uses clear, concise, and professional communication in person, over the radio, and in written format. • Demonstrates effective teamwork and collaboration, and time management skills. • Maintains an orderly and clean work area, with all tools in good repair. • Adheres to all Company policies regarding PPE and Chemical Management. • Sets up and closes working areas as per schedule or as instructed by the Management Team. • Participates in trainings and meetings. Adheres to a Company confidentiality agreement. • Follows the destination’s grooming standards. Ensures personal appearance, hygiene, and uniform appearance are always in accordance with Company policy. Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for Guests and the Team. • Acknowledges and greets Guests, Visitors, and Team Members in public spaces with a warm, friendly greeting. FI NANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Maintains the inventory of tools and equipment. • Determines inventory and compiles a bi-weekly list of all supplies/tools needed. QUALIFICATIONS: • A High School Diploma or basic education equivalency. Knowledge of mathematics, chemistry, and biology. • Experience within cruise ship environment in the technical environment. • Ability to apply data to formulas that determine treatment requirements, flow levels, and concentration levels. • Ability to effectively operate the equipment, use control boards, transfer, or treat water or wastewater. • Ability to manually operate the equipment in case of malfunction, power outages, or other electrical issues. • Advanced skills in plumbing and ability to use hand and power tools used in the plumbing trade. • Working experience with PVC, CPVC, PEX, cast iron, and copper. Advanced skills in welding (Gas, Electric, TIG, MIG). • Water Treatment Operator Certification is preferred. • OSHA HAZWOPER Certification is preferred. • Certified Environmental Professional (CEP) is preferred. • Familiarity with site drainage and maintenance required. • An understanding of industrial control systems is preferred. • Good interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of Management and Team Members. • Ability to maintain focus, work with strict deadlines, multitask and be flexible and adaptable. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly, and cordially with Guests, Team Members, Contractors, and Vendors. • Ability to read and write English, to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms and to effectively present information and respond to questions from Guests, Managers, and Team Members. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste and smell. The Team Member must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. • All destination Team Members must be physically able to participate in emergency life-saving procedures and drills.
