The Maintenance Supervisor is a hands-on leader responsible for supervising and participating in the maintenance, repair, installation, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of the company's facilities, machinery, equipment, and building systems across its restaurants, bakery, ice cream operations, administrative offices, and dialysis centers.
The incumbent supervises the maintenance team, coordinates contractors where specialized expertise is required, and ensures company assets remain safe, reliable, and operational while minimizing downtime and maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Maintenance Operations
• Supervise and participate in the maintenance, repair, installation, servicing, and troubleshooting of company facilities, machinery, equipment, and building systems.
• Perform hands-on repairs to refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, commercial kitchen and bakery equipment, ice cream equipment, generators, pumps, motors, plumbing systems, water systems, and electrical systems within the scope of competence.
• Diagnose equipment failures, implement corrective actions, and respond promptly to emergency breakdowns.
• Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance schedules and conduct routine inspections to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
Team Leadership
• Plan, assign, prioritize, supervise, and inspect maintenance work.
• Monitor employee performance and assist the Facilities Manager with performance evaluations, training, and development.
Asset, Contractor & Inventory Management
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, inspection reports, equipment histories, and preventive maintenance documentation.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend repairs, replacement, or upgrades to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Maintain inventories of maintenance tools, spare parts, and consumables, and prepare requisitions as required.
• Coordinate and supervise contractors to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and to Company standards.
• Assist with maintenance budgeting, equipment replacement planning, and facility improvement projects.
Health, Safety & Compliance
• Promote and enforce compliance with occupational health and safety policies and safe maintenance practices, including lockout/tagout procedures.
• Conduct safety inspections along with HSSE, investigate maintenance-related incidents, and implement corrective actions.
Requirements
Applicants must possess:
• A Diploma, Certificate, or equivalent technical qualification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electronics, Equipment Maintenance, or a related discipline from GTI, The University of Guyana, or another recognized institution.
Equivalent combinations of technical training and relevant experience may be considered.
Experience
• A minimum of three (3) years' hands-on maintenance experience in commercial, industrial, healthcare, hospitality, manufacturing, or food service environments.
• Previous supervisory or team leadership experience is preferred.
• Experience maintaining refrigeration and air-conditioning systems, commercial kitchen and bakery equipment, generators, pumps, motors, plumbing systems, and related operational equipment.
• Experience coordinating contractors and supporting multi-site operations is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration, air-conditioning, commercial food service equipment, pumps, motors, generators, plumbing, and basic electrical systems.
• Ability to diagnose faults, read technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics, and perform effective repairs.
• Knowledge of preventive maintenance planning and asset management.
• Strong troubleshooting, planning, organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and computerized maintenance record-keeping.
• Valid driver's licence with the ability to travel between Company locations.
